SHORT DESCRIPTION

Policy and guidelines on Scientific sessions namely, Continuing Dental Education, Clinical Club, Value Added Programmes/Workshops and Certificate Programmes.  

SCOPE

Policy is applicable to all teaching faculty, students and research scholars of KMCT Dental College and General/Private Practitioners in different branches of Indian & Kerala Dental Associations.

INTRODUCTION

Scientific programmes play a vital role in an institution in updating the students and faculty by refining the basics, novel techniques, use of latest technology and current concepts in literature, diagnosis, treatment etc. The team is committed to organize a robust framework, monitor and conduct different scientific sessions in KMCT Dental College based on academic interests, student curriculum, cutting-edge technologies and latest dental materials.

SCOPE

The committee allows the students, post graduates and faculty to benefit from the sessions and acquire knowledge in various aspects of current generation of dentistry and practice the same for academic excellence and execute upgraded clinical practice.

OBJECTIVES

1.To provide basic training and information on different strategies and innovative treatment techniques in the current scenario.

2.To promote the need to perform techniques with a different approach by seeking support from other departments.

3.To help the students to recognize the extent of treatments and long-term outcomes of such procedures.

4.To provide and promote the skills of students and encourage them to perform complex procedures and use of latest equipment or devices.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMES BODIES AND PROCEDINGS
Continuing dental education (CDE)

This programme aims to provide dental education and knowledge to students, faculty and also general/private dental practitioners through an external resource person who is well versed in the particular field of the subject by presentation of the literature aspects and currents concepts along with live hands-on demonstration (if applicable). CDE’s will be held on a monthly basis for one day with a minimum of 5-6 hours with active participation from all clinical and non-clinical departments.

Clinical Club (CC)

Clinical club aims to convey and present the various special/complex cases performed in any department with an interdisciplinary or integrated approach between different branches of dentistry. This programme is meant to be conducted once in a month from each branch with the audience from all department teaching faculty, post graduates and house surgeons.

Value Added Programmes (VAP)/ Workshops

Value added programmes are a two-day programme with 16 hours of contact with students. These programmes are meant for the budding dentists (Interns) and post graduate students in KMCT dental college. The value-added programme aims to impart knowledge to students of the college from protocols and techniques to refine the basic diagnostic and treatment procedures to latest technologies used in the current scenario of dental education and clinical practice. The sessions will include a proper briefing via presentations on the theoretical aspects on the topic of interest and hands on experience on models and real time patients over a period of two days. All clinical and non-clinical departments actively will be involved in conducting these sessions and will be held once every month.

Certificate Programmes (CP)

Certificate programmes are short term sessions with hands-on demonstration (if applicable) for interns and post-graduates. It aims to provide prior exposure to dental treatments that are popular among practitioners or general public and very frequently performed in dental clinics. These programmes are conducted by clinical departments on a regular basis as per a new set house surgeons begin the posting in the particular department.

OBJECTIVES

Committee terms/guidelines will be reviewed and revised as per suggestions and feedbacks received.
